the second price

the second price

ssssss

Note to self: every purchase comes with two prices, not just one.

The first price is in black and white. It's right there: the number on the tag, staring you in the face. Pinned in USD, EUR, or any other currency. Easy peasy. Just one question to answer: can the wallet handle it?

Then there's a second price. Less obvious but crucial. No currency in sight, but it's asking for time and energy. This price isn't settled at the cash counter. It needs longer commitment.

Say you bought a new gadget. Price one - done deal. Price two? Not so fast! Have you considered the hours spent learning to use it? The mental energy drained to grasp the manual? The patience to troubleshoot issues? That's the second price. The time, the energy - it's a steep cost.

And here’s a hard truth. You can earn more money, but not more time. Life doesn’t come with a bonus level for extra time. Everyone gets 24 hours, no more, no less. Energy come and goes but it's finite. You can't store it, can't lend or borrow. This is your time-energy budget to spend.

So, think. Think hard. Buying things? Easy. Paying the second price? That's a different game. It's a hike uphill, not a walk in the park. It demands focus. Total, constant, laser-sharp focus. Attention splattered all over the place? Nope, won't work. Zone in, drill down, concentrate on one thing, one single thing. And do it... for a long time.

It’s a marathon, a test of endurance. A battle against distractions, against interruptions. You'll need to sweat it out, you'll need to burn that energy. You are paying, after all. The second price claims it, insists on it. Only to squeeze out the benefit, the value you initially saw. That’s what’s at stake.

This is where it gets interesting. You hold the power. The power to choose. The power to decide where your time and energy go. You are in charge of your own time/energy budget. Monthly household budget? You've got it covered. Now, manage the other one. The unwritten, unstated, less visible but vital budget. Be mindful. Be vigilant. This is your share, your chunk of time. It's precious; it's limited. Make it count.

So, the next time you’re tempted to buy that shiny new gadget or sign up for that course, pause. Ask – am I ready to pay the second price? If the ROI doesn't feel right, stop. Because you're not just spending money, you're spending a chunk of life – that’s what time and energy are. Some prices are higher than they appear on tags.
