the work is the win

People who've crossed paths with me can vouch for one thing: I'm naturally curious. Exploring uncharted territories and tackling unique challenges? That's my thing. This very spirit of exploration and curiosity often leads me to think on how I approach my goals. When I set out to achieve something, there are two aspects to consider.

First, there's the action - the baby steps I take, the conscious efforts towards a desired result. It's a journey, each step intentional and strategic. Then, there's the outcome - the overarching goal, the final result. Here's the thing: while I can control my actions, outcomes remain unpredictable. It's like trying to control tomorrow's weather - impossible. All I can do is to invest my energy, focus, and passion into my actions, and that's where the true value lies.

Motivation, it's not one-size-fits-all. There are layers to it. There's external motivation - the world's applause, awards and recognition. It's the reward I chase or sometimes the push I need. It's about seeking validation from the world.

Then, there's relational motivation. This one's a bit closer to home. It's the pat on the back from my loved ones, or the kind word from someone I respect. It's driven by emotions – the highs of approval, the lows of guilt. It is about my connections with others, the relationships I value, and the feedback from those close to me.

But the deepest form is internal motivation. It's the sheer joy of the act itself, being immersed, and feeling every moment. It's the inner fire pushing me to do better, to be better. This is where creativity thrives and happiness is at home.

The essence? The internal drive - that's all mine. External and relational motivations are all fleeting and unpredictable. So, here's my note to self: be in a place where doing the work already is the win. Because when it is, everything else is the cherry on top.
